Balancing Act

KEMP Technologies, Inc., a Bethpage producer of network computing devices and software accelerators, has come with an affordable load-balancing server.

For a sub-$5,000 device, the LM 2500 packs some serious horsepower.  It can balance 50,000 secured socket layer Internet connections, the type used for banking and most Web mail systems, per second.

Server load balancing is a technique that distributes Web queries to various servers to prevent data backlogs.  Because the cost of load balancers is often prohibitive, they are usually only used by mid- to enterprise-level businesses.

KEMP also recruited three college students to work on product enhancements to the LoadMaster line this summer.  The interns include: Evan Gerard of Wantagh, a junior Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Bruce Halperin of Dix Hills, a junior at Princeton University; and Eric Lai, also of Wantagh, who is a sophomore at Stanford University.

Recruiting was coordinated by the Long island Software Technology Network.
